It has an 80-watt speaker with serious bass, some lighting effects, and a battery that provides enough energy to last you all day and then some. With a 2.1-channel configuration featuring a racetrack subwoofer and dual tweeters, there is real bottom end and crisp highs. The rugged handle, the rubberized ends, and the flat, horizontal body provide ample opportunities to carry this speaker anywhere you go, whether it’s on a pool chair, a table, etc.
The battery in the Soundcore Boom 2 speaker can last up to 24 hours on a single charge when used at a moderate volume. There is a built-in power bank feature that provides another option for users by allowing them to connect a phone via the USB-A port and recharge it using the power stored in the speaker’s battery when no other power source is available.
Inside the Boom 2, two components work together to deliver outstanding sound. It includes a racetrack subwoofer capable of very loud levels and two dedicated tweeters that allow separation of bass from midrange and treble, rather than combining them into one. Right out of the box, you have access to 60 watts of total power. There is an option called BassUp 2.0, which increases the output to 80 watts while enhancing low-frequency response.
This speaker is better suited for use in areas where you may encounter water, mud, and extreme weather conditions, thanks to the durability features incorporated into it. The Boom 2 is rated IPX7, which means it can withstand exposure to large amounts of water (splashed, poured on, submerged), as well as extreme weather conditions, including but not limited to heavy rain. If you should accidentally drop the speaker in a pool or lake, the housing is designed to float, preventing it from sinking below the surface and making it difficult to retrieve.
Lighting effects and the ability to control the speaker via an app offer users additional options to customize the experience based on their mood. Around the outer edge of the Boom 2 is a ring of RGB lights that can be configured to pulsate, wave, or cycle through various colors. Users can also turn off lighting effects if they prefer a more subdued look and want to conserve battery life. Using the Soundcore app, users can select pre-programmed scenes, set the brightness, and create a custom Pro EQ curve to match their preferences rather than a default sound curve.
In addition to the above features, PartyCast 2.0 and Bluetooth 5.3 offer a range of options to expand users’ listening experience beyond a single speaker. For example, users can connect multiple PartyCast-compatible speakers to create a larger listening area, or users can pair a second Boom 2 for a true wireless stereo experience. Bluetooth 5.3 provides a solid connection between the speaker and the user’s device, and users can access simple controls on the speaker’s top panel to quickly adjust volume, BassUp, and lighting.
At $90 ($50 off, 36% off) compared to its retail price of $140, the Soundcore Boom 2 by Anker Outdoor Speaker offers users a 2.1-channel sound experience with plenty of battery life and a durable, waterproof design, priced better than many outdoor speakers.
